You’re about to meet up with your friend for a video game night. Normally you’re excited when this happens, but an incident at work earlier is weighing on your mind. Someone made very rude comments about your weight, and now you feel like you have to shed those pounds. Your mind keeps telling you how awful your body is, no matter how much it hurts to hear. There you are, welcome! As always, it's great to have you. How's it going? Well, glad to hear it.
Come on, I have everything set up downstairs. Before we get started, you want any snacks? Oh, hang on, let me check.
Oh, we got popcorn, chips, pretzels, M&Ms, Skittles. Why do I have both? That's crazy.
And I think we have something healthier if you. .. Oh, right.
What about drinks? You want soda? We got soda.
Coffee, tea, water maybe? Are you sure? Alright, then what game should we play tonight? Oh, yeah, yeah, that sounds fun.
Let me put it up real quick. Was. ..
was that you? You sure you don't want any snacks? I mean, I got a granola bar if you want.
Okay, if you say so. Anyway, uh, oh, I was playing this the other day and something really funny came out and I think it's an unpatched bug or something, but look it up online and it was so dumb too. Like you, uh, you absolutely sure you don't want something to eat? You do sound really hungry.
Oh, yeah? So when did you want to lose weight? I mean, it's fine, that's fine, that's cool.
But like, even if you're trying to lose weight, you know you should still eat when you're hungry. It's not really gonna help your body to be running on empty all the time, you know? Okay, if you say so, if you say so.
I'm sorry for, like, poking. Although, I'm just being curious. Why do you want to lose weight all of a sudden? Why don't you like how you look? Ho, ho, hold up.
What did you just say about yourself? No, no, no, stop talking. What's gotten into you? How could you say those things about your own body? No, you are acting really weird today.
Everything's fine? Really? Do you really expect me to believe that? Come on, my friend.
You can talk if you want. Work, okay? What happened at work today? Really? Seriously? I just made fun of you for no reason.
Dang, you would think you would have grown up since high school, right? So that's what this is about, then? You're feeling insecure because of what he said? He made you feel bad about your weight? Of course.
Bastard. Dude, I need you to listen to me, alright? What he did was completely out of line.
Like to just walk up to you during work and make mean comments about your body is. .. Honestly, it's fucked up.
Everybody looks different. Just because your body type is bigger than average doesn't make you a bad person. Yeah, everyone has different body types.
Some reason the world just sees skinny as the default, but in reality there is no such thing as a default body. Everyone in the world could eat the exact same meals and do the exact same exercise every day. And we'd still have 8 billion bodies that all look different.
You don't need to put yourself down just because some jerk doesn't know that, or rather just doesn't care to know. Honestly, I don't know why some people think like him. I mean, I suppose the default assumption is that bigger peoples are lazy? But we both know that's not true.
You know me, I go to the gym a lot, and the larger people there work harder than anyone else I've ever seen. The jerks out there who laugh because someone else can only run for like, what, 10 minutes on the treadmill? They don't know if that's 5 minutes more than they could last month.
Just being big doesn't make you lazy. You can go to the gym every day and still not be skinny. God, that's bullshit that people expect otherwise.
I guess the other reason is that some people assume bigger people have no self-control? But you know, eating healthy is very expensive. Again, you know me, I'm kind of a health nut at this point.
I could literally buy double the amount of food if I only purchased sugary fillers instead of fresh produce or meats. I don't know how food shopping has gone so backwards. And not to mention that companies literally design their food to be addictive, adding in unnecessary sweeteners and caffeine just to make sure people become dependent on them.
And then there are these shady ways companies go about making people eat more? Like, did you know that the serving size for a Pop-Tart is just one? One Pop-Tart? But they always bundled in bags of two, right? Things like that happen all over and it really sucks.
Plus, you practically have to have a degree in nutrition to even understand what foods in the grocery store are actually healthy and how much of them you should be eating. You know, half of the food market has healthy alternatives or whatever are just the same garbage with green packaging. Like no wonder there are so many big people out there.
That's kind of mean. No wonder there are so many big people out there. And with this culture of shame we have around being fat? These people grew up hating themselves and paying stupid money for stupid diets that don't even work, only to like gain all of the weight back because the system is literally designed for us to fail.
Sorry, I could get really heated with this, I'm just so pissed off that someone treated you like that. That treating people like this is somehow considered okay? It's not fair to you or honestly anyone else.
There are big people out there with better fitness routines than me, honestly. Big people out there who eat healthier than me. Like there are so many factors that go into someone's weight.
It's not as simple as being lazy or having no self-control. People have different metabolism, different budgets, different grocery stores, different amount of free time to exercise, it's just, it's not fair that people generalize so much. You can be chubby and still be healthy, you know? And the opposite also true, you can be skinny and be super unhealthy, like it isn't black and white, you know?
Listen to me, I don't care what you look like. No matter if you're thin or chubby, you're still my friend. And I'm not shallow enough to judge you because of something like what weight looks.
I want you to forget everything that guy said to you today. In reality he doesn't know jack shit. The only person who's allowed to judge your body is you, honestly.
You got that, right? And you are allowed to be happy with your body the way it is now, I promise you. Yeah, you know, as long as you're taking care of yourself, which you definitely are, you can still be bigger than average.
If you do want to be skinnier, that's entirely okay, I'm not gonna stop you, I'll help you even if you want. Just make sure you're only doing it for yourself, not for anyone else. Now, what's the actual reason you wanted to lose weight all of a sudden, hmm? Yeah, that's what I thought.
Come here, let me hug you. Don't let other people put you down for your appearance. If they care so much about it, honestly they're the ones with the problem, not you.
I just, I hope my angry rambling helped you better. Again, sorry that I got super heated, it's just, god, it's such a pet peeve. Yeah, I'm glad I could help.
Again, if you ever feel like this again, please don't hide it. You're welcome to just talk to me, I'm more than happy to just listen. Right, ready to play? Yeah, let's get you a snack first.
So, what are you hungry for?
