As you listen to this audio roleplay, I invite you to use headphones and imagine yourself as the main character of this story. Oh hey, there you are! I was just looking for you in the studio.

Oh, oh, I see, your band is just working on the vocals right now? So they kicked you out? Right, right.

Sure, you can rehearse here, that's fine. I was just going to lie down on the lawn chair, have my coffee, and read my book for 15 minutes or so. But I can go do that at a coffee shop, or the park, or whatever.

What if you kept it more mellow? Oh, with the music? Right, right, like my very own personal cafe music ambiance, right here on the roof? I see, I see, you're just jamming along to some tracks? Sure, that sounds nice, actually.

I'll just lie down here on the lawn chair while you play. That's really beautiful music. What's that? Right, uh, yeah, I did say I was going to read my book.

Well, right now, I'm really enjoying listening to your music, I guess. Is this something you're working on with the band? Oh, I see, this is just one of your own tunes? Something you jam to? Uh-huh.

Yeah, I guess it's pretty different from what you guys play in the band? Um, yeah, full disclosure, I did look up your band. Yeah, I wanted to see what all the hype is about, with you being one of the newcomers to check out at the festival.

And yeah, I get why there's big buzz. Your stuff is really good. Well, for one, I think you guys have a fucking good bass player.

No, no, they're really good. And your songwriter and lyricist is super talented, too. Seriously, though, there were some riffs and melodies and verses that really shook me, you know? I feel like you took some scenes directly out of my therapy sessions and turned them into art.

Yeah, yeah, I could see myself really getting into your music and becoming an obsessed crazy groupie. Which is saying something, because up until now, I've had very little inclination towards punk rock. I think the most quote-unquote alternative band I have in my library is Imagine Dragons.

What's that? Do I know some of their songs? What do you mean? Like do I know about them? Can I sing any of them? Yeah, I guess so.

But like in my car or my kitchen or whatever. Not like on stage or anything. Yeah, yeah, I know that one.

Are you serious? You want me to sing right now? Right, right, just riffing, jamming, having fun.

All right, all right. I'm waking up to ash and dust. I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust.

Breathing in the chemicals. Whoa. Breaking in, shaping up, checking out on the prison bus.

This is it, the apocalypse. Whoa, I'm waking up. I feel it in my bones.

Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Welcome to the new age, to the new age.

Whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive. Whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive. I raise my flag and don my clothes.

It's a revolution, I suppose. I paint it red to fit right in.

All systems go. The sun hasn't died. Deep in my bones.

Straight from inside. I'm waking up. I feel it in my bones.

Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Welcome to the new age, to the new age.

Whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive. Whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive. Wow.

Fuck, you're really good. Were those harmonics? Nice.

Huh. So how long have you been playing bass guitar? Wow, wow.

And just electric bass? Right, right. Me? Well, thank you.

Well, it's not growly punk rock like your lead singer. But my little soprano lyrical voice does meld well with your beautiful bass. Huh? Another song.

Well, like I said, I don't think my music repertoire is quite the same as yours. What? What's the theme song of my life? What do you mean? Oh, is there a tune that's like my battle cry or my power anthem? The song I play to pick myself up and conquer the world? Huh, I don't know.

Do you have one? Oh, really? What is it? Oh, my God.

Star Wars? No, no, I would not have guessed that would be your theme song. Yeah, I figured it would be more of a hardcore grunge anthem.

But yeah, I like these surprises I'm learning about you. So why Star Wars? No, I'm not familiar with Joseph Campbell.

Who's that? I see. A philosopher who focused on legends, myths, and storytelling.

Oh, wow. So he studied stories across time and across cultures and found that they all contained similar themes. I see.

Oh, and one of those themes that occurred almost universally was what he called the hero's journey. What's that? Right, so basically every human's journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Oh, so we all go through similar steps and stages. And our stories reflect that. Like what? Okay.

So we start in our regular lives without any awareness of ourselves or our subconscious. This is our quote unquote ordinary world. Okay.

And then we get a call to adventure. What's that? Okay, so a call to adventure is basically something that happens that disrupts and throws the hero's ordinary world off balance in some way.

Uh-huh. So like a tragedy, a challenge, a barrier, an upheaval, a quest. Okay, so some kind of event that makes the hero want to leave their ordinary world in order to seek answers, find solutions and make change.

Okay. Right, and if they dare to answer that call to adventure and pursue their hero's journey, what they ultimately have to do is explore their subconscious and fight their inner dragons. I see.

Uh-huh. And when they do that, they find themselves and learn how to live a more fully authentic and happy life. Nice.

Right, and their journeys come full circle when they return and offer to guide and mentor others in their respective hero's journeys. Wow, that's really cool. So how does that relate to Star Wars being your life's theme song? Ah, cool.

So George Lucas wrote the first Star Wars trilogy specifically with Joseph Campbell's hero's journey in mind? Right, right. So this song is when Luke Skywalker is getting his call to adventure, the call of the force.

Right, okay. So that's the song that reminds you of your own call to adventure and the importance of daring and taking the leap of faith to follow your bliss. That's awesome.

Wow. Yeah, well, I've actually seen Star Wars a bunch, and I'm really into science fiction, but I didn't know that about the film or the story. I'd never heard of Joseph Campbell before.

Now it makes me want to rewatch the whole first trilogy again. All right, it's a date. You're on.

Huh? Oh, right. My theme song?
