When In Greece...

Uh no nobody's sitting here please by all means join me um do you do you want a menu here here have this one so you're not from greece clearly me neither are you sure you're not hungry because the server will be right back oh fair fair uh do you want me to order for you yeah it's no problem what do you want okay yeah here he comes anyway just a sec you're gonna hate me because my accent is terrible but anyway uh yes uh i got that right right i mean you wanted a chicken salad with tomato and cucumber right and a tea with milk and sugar okay i think that's what i said we'll see what you get but i'm pretty sure oh no don't be impressed that was terrible i literally know enough greek that i don't get lost and i don't starve so mm-hmm so i wouldn't say i speak the language i'd say i butcher the language but it's fine uh yeah it is my first time in greece is it yours yeah i was um made redundant at my job about a month ago and um well the severance package was pretty nice so i've decided to take a year off and travel to all the places i wanted to go before i figure out what i want to do next and greece has been the top of my list for years so how about you oh friends huh and how come you're here by yourself a party party house at the beach oh gosh i can just imagine especially when they roped you in last minute like that wow well i'm glad you decided to venture out on your own today yeah yeah um i honestly i don't know how long i'm staying uh the place i'm renting actually belongs to a friend of mine and he said i could stay there as long as i want so yeah well it's one of the reasons i started here other than this is like the top of my list but i started here because i knew that place was available and you know i could stay as long as i want and he's not really charging me all that much which he should be but he's not um he usually rents it out as an airbnb but he's being nice i think he feels badly because i got downsized and he didn't um so yeah it's cool though um i'm planning on heading over to um italy and france uh and the czech republic i get to butcher those languages too are you just staying here for the the duration of your vacation well no you don't really need to travel to drink and party and is it just a house of guys okay the local girls okay mm-hmm yeah there's a place just down the road where i'm staying that's kind of like that it's very loud at all hours so i can i can sympathize sounds pretty tedious though i mean how do you come to greece and not experience the culture right i know there's so much here well see i went to school and got a degree in what they called classical studies ancient civilizations greece and rome were the two that i enjoyed studying the most yeah yeah i greek mythology is like one of my favorite things and um the architecture and the history even outside of the mythology the history of greece is just beautiful um i've done a couple of tours yeah yeah well we're kind of central so there's all kinds of things around us right um athens has been my favorite so far have you seen anything but your place and the beach nothing wow no i just i couldn't imagine coming to a place like this and not it must be so frustrating i'm sorry oh here oh look at that a chicken salad cucumber tomato and tea with milk and sugar on the tray eferisto uh just so you know eferisto is thank you uh if any still pulley is thank you very much and paracarlo is please yasu is hello i'm not going to give you a greek lesson but just so you know those are some key ones you might want to throw into your repertoire they were the first ones i found i needed please and thank you goes a long way and it's nice to be able to say hello okay yeah yeah so um so you haven't seen anything yet and they're not interested um this is probably out in left field because you literally just sat at my table but um would you want to maybe join me on the tour this afternoon it's it's like two hours and it's a a bus tour slash walking tour and they take us to a bunch of different sites and i can't even remember what's on it the travel agent said it's it's a must see when i'm here so i've literally just booked everything she told me to book because she's been right so far yeah i would imagine there's room there's been lots of room on all the tours i've done so far and i'm sure you can buy a ticket at the time it's not that expensive well i was just gonna finish up my lunch and then uh head over there's a little shop over here that has some really beautiful pottery and things that i want to check out and then i'll head over uh to the meeting place for the tour if you want to join me like i said yeah well i'll be honest my roommate and my mom were very upset with the fact that i was going to be traveling on my own because you know they care and they're a little over concerned about things like that and i'll be honest i was concerned too a bit um not about like being afraid of anything but like having nobody to talk to because i don't speak the language fluently enough to carry on a real conversation just to keep myself fed but i kind of hoped i would meet interesting people and it's fairly popular tourist destination so yeah all right well why don't you eat your lunch that looks delicious by the way the food this place this restaurant is the first place i found when i got here and i keep coming back not only because i can sit outside but because the food has been unbelievable and all of the food here has been unbelievable so well i know why you chose greece because your friends made you yeah is this somewhere you've always wanted to go then yeah me too when i was growing up um there was a couple that lived down the street from my parents house and they were greek like very greek um had the most beautiful accents spoke the language and it sounded like music and they became really good friends with my parents so we would spend holidays together and there was always food always food like you walk in and the entire kitchen is covered with like plates and trays of things it was amazing so i always kind of made it my mission come here and see the culture and taste the food um that's why i walk so much because i like to eat um but yeah it's uh it's always been someplace i wanted to come and here i am i tried to convince my mom to come with me but she couldn't get the time off work and my dad had no interest so yeah okay let's uh let's eat and then we'll go check out that little shop and i'll show you where we pick up the bus for the tour yeah me too yeah i'm really glad you sat down here too.
