The Stranger - SFW Affirmation

You don't know me yet, and technically we would have just met, but I think the important thing to know is that I am here beside you right now in this moment and I don't know what kind of day you've had. I think sometimes it's nice if somebody just asked, if someone took just one moment to say, hey how was your day? Was it a good one? Was it bad? Maybe I'll even ask you if it was a mixed bag and whatever answer you give me is okay.

Whatever emotion is laying just behind that veiled response, that emotion counts. You count. Maybe that there are a lot of things that you don't want to tell your family, your loved ones, maybe even your best friend in the whole wide world.

But for just one single moment, if I can provide you with even a little bit of peace, for you to tell me what that real, raw, honest emotion is, just underneath your beating heart and your busy brain, I would hope that you would take a moment to tell it to a stranger who feels very familiar. Your secrets are safe with me. Your feelings, your needs, the fact that sometimes your heart is beating so loudly in your ears that you can't hear anything else.

Unburden yourself from those things and tell them to me. Because I can carry you in a way that you will never feel guilty about. All my fingers are trailing through strands of your hair, are wiping tears from your cheeks that you haven't even shed yet.

I'm here to pick up the pieces of that shattered mirror. And at the end of the day, it's going to be okay. Your head resting so warmly and so comfortably on a chest that feels like plush pillows and a warm summer breeze, caressing and familiar in its strangeness.

I want you to relax. I want you to recognize that you're safe and you're whole. Even on the days where you feel like everything in you is a million pieces and a thousand miles from home.

I am merely a stranger asking you to see in me the things that I wish you could see in yourself. You don't have to be okay all the time. You don't have to be strong all the time.

But right now, in this moment, I want you to let it go. Unclench your jaw, unroll your shoulders back and down, away from your ears. I think those tense muscles have had enough.

Lay with me here, and simply breathe. Relish this moment. Relish it.

And remember that you are doing it loved. Tomorrow is a new day. Let's try to worry about that then.
