Okay. Nervous. Really nervous.
No idea why, but I am. It's just lunch. What is wrong with you girl? You know how to eat.
You can talk to anyone. So why does this feel so. ..
different? Exciting. Oh, that's it.
This one. This one gives you butterflies. That was different.
And exciting. And. ..
Hey. Hi. How are you? Good.
Good. Oh, my dress. Thank you.
It's a favourite, actually. Well, thank you. Shall we go in? Are you hungry? Alright.
Yes, I'm starving, actually. We can just eat ourselves here. Anywhere.
That booth back there looks open. Yeah? Okay.
Hi. Doing well, thanks. How are you? How's your day so far? Busy lunch? Yeah.
We just missed it? Perfect. Well, I promise we'll take it easy on you.
Great. Thank you. What to order? Honestly, anything.
I don't actually eat meat, but if you do, please don't worry that you'll offend me. No, no, no. Seriously.
Not at all. Enjoy whatever you want. Please.
The food is so good here. I promise. Yes, please.
Order anything. Oh, I am so full. What did you think? Did you like it? Excellent.
Well, good. I know it came out really fast, didn't it? We didn't even really have a chance to talk and it was here.
The book. Yes, I did finish it. I loved it.
Although, I have to say the end sort of took me by surprise. In a good way. Well, I think I was surprised because the ending was so much more literal than I thought it would be.
But literal isn't always bad. And in this way, it was done right. It was done really good.
It didn't feel like, you know, sometimes how you can feel like you're cheated or the story was compromised to make it literal. Does that make sense? Yeah.
But with this, the takeaway was really so much more about the journey and not the destination, right? I mean, that was really clear. Yeah.
You'll get where you're supposed to go, but it's what you learn along the way that matters far more, right? Yes. And when I was reading it, I could kind of see how each time you reread it, you might pull something different from it.
It was really cool. I loved it. Thank you so much again for the copy.
I was really thoughtful of you. What's that? What are you reading now? That's my favorite book.
Oh, that's why you got it. Oh, I could have given you my copy. You like having a collection.
I get that. How far in are you? Okay.
Yeah. I'm curious if you'll find parallels to the one that you gave me. You already have? Yeah.
I mean, same author, so it's sort of makes sense, but yeah. I look forward to talking to you about it when you're done. So I wanted to ask you, what got you into reading anyway? Escapism.
Family fighting. Yeah, I can relate to that. That's fair.
Yeah. I mean, what a great way to escape though, right? I mean, escape from anything.
It's good for you. For me? I was, I guess what they would call a voracious reader for a long time.
And then music started to really have more of an impact on me. So I didn't quite read as much for a long time. Yeah, I do.
All kinds really. I don't get stuck on a certain type anymore really. It's more like I hear something I like and want to explore it more, you know.
I am in charge of the music at work. Yeah. Oh, thank you.
I love creating the playlist for it. I think the only reason they let me take it over was because they had one playlist and that would play over and over every single day. I think it was maybe like 18 songs.
So you can imagine during say an eight-hour shift, how many times I was hearing it each and every day. It drove me mad. So I kept complaining about it until finally they broke down and they were like, well, make a playlist.
And I said, I'll do you better. I'll make a 30 because I don't want to hear the same songs every single time I work. Make you one, a playlist? I totally would.
Yeah. Do you have a preference of the kind of music it is or surprise you? I like that.
Yes. I will. I definitely will.
What got me into music and away from books so much? Well, I mean, I wouldn't really say it got me away from books. It was just sort of something new.
You know, I wasn't looking to not read as much, but I think it's because like you with your books, I find there's a story in everything. And those stories, even the ones that don't maybe connect to us personally, it probably do to somebody else, right? And that gives them value.
Each story, each song, each painting, each photo, it has value to someone. And that's really important to me. It's expression, it's connection, it's love, inspiration, compassion, relatability, whatever you want to call it.
That connection holds incredible value. And then you realize there's stories everywhere. They're just being told through different mediums to teach us and to show us.
And I'm rambling. No, I really am. You need to stop talking.
This is where you start to bore people. Do not start waxing philosophy here. I'm sorry, what did you say? You've never thought about things that way? How did I come up with that? No.
Well, actually, yeah, I guess I was taught it through different teachings, right? There's probably a lot of things sort of led me to that conclusion, if you will. I have a really hard time shutting off my thoughts most of the time, actually.
And so I just think I sort of realized it one day. I can be in my head a lot, yeah. That's why I like being at work so much, because it keeps me out of there.
You're like that too? Really? Yes.
I completely identify with that. Oh, no, no, you absolutely never come across as weird. No, I promise you.
You do seem like you're in your head sometimes, like you're deep in thought, but it doesn't come across as strange or odd. You're always smiling, usually. Yeah, no, not at all.
Oh, hi. I am finished, thank you. Dessert? No, not for me.
You? All right, thank you. I hope the rest of your day goes smoothly.
Thanks. Bye. No, no, let me get it.
You got me the book, so let me get you lunch. Really? Really? Only if next time it's on me, okay? I'm assuming there'll be a next time.
Oh, I, oh God, what did I do? What did I do? Oh, why did you say that? You're joking? Are you? Yeah, I am ready.
Let's go. Well, thank you so much for lunch and for meeting me here. Oh, you're welcome.
Yeah, I like learning more about you too. What am I up to now? I have class in an hour.
No, no, no, yoga, just yoga. Yeah. Walk for a bit? Yeah, I can.
Wanted to ask me what? What I studied? Ah, I majored in creative writing and minored in, wait for it, philosophy.
That's cool. Oh, thank you. My parents didn't really think so.
Wait, what? That means I'm a writer? Oh, no.
No, I mean, I do write, but I'm not a writer.
