This month, I get into my favorite road trips, Disney World rides and the worst physical pain I've ever experienced. Oh, and some more math!
Happy June, Patreon. Unlike May, in which I did all of my recording in the first half of the month, in June I'm doing it all in the last half of the month. And the reason is COVID, as I'm sure you're aware.
I was traveling internationally and I tested positive for COVID the day before I was supposed to return to the US. And so I ended up having an extended stay and we'll talk about that a little bit later. Actually gets into the questions here for the Q&A.
So lots of questions this month. As I've said in the past, if there's something that's a little bit too personal, I'm going to skip over it. No offense, but you know, there's some things I want to keep a little bit more private.
Starting off, we got Tina asking about the best fast food restaurant. This is a no brainer. It's not even a question really.
It's Chick-fil-A. Everyone knows this. And they're really, I mean, the window for dispute over this is closed.
We're done. Follow up, rank the fries of fast food places. Example McDonald's, Burger King, Carl's Jr.
, Jack in the Box, Cane's, Five Guys, In-N-Out, and Taco Bell. Okay, so it was only within the last year or so that I even found out that Taco Bell has fries. That can tell you how long it's been since I've been there.
I'm actually not that much of a fast food guy. I really do like the Chick-fil-A waffle fries. I mean, who doesn't? And you got to watch the video on YouTube.
It's an older video guy talking about some guy that was cursing up a storm in the Chick-fil-A. And he was talking about how these are the Lord's waffle fries. And it's pretty awesome.
It's pretty great. They are the Lord's waffle fries. Enjoy them.
McDonald's and Five Guys also have outstanding fries. Burger King's fries, I can't remember the last time that I had them. That's how bad they are.
Like anytime I eat a Burger King, I ask for onion rings instead. Because even though they're not great onion rings, they're still better than the fries. And gosh, it's probably been 10 years since I had Jack in the Box, so I really don't even remember anymore.
Unrefined sugar, she always comes up with some stuff for me. What's your least favorite color? I'd say it's puke orange.
I can't really think of many applications for that color apart from making me feel disgusted. If you could only drink either carbonated or still drinks for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Hang on, let me take a sip of my Diet Pepsi here.
We could narrow the question down a bit. If you could only drink Diet Pepsi or anything else for the rest of your life, the answer would be Diet Pepsi. So that's the answer.
I love beverages and I mean, I guess like if you leave them open long enough, they become flat and then you have a still beverage, so it's kind of a twofer. I mean, maybe it's cheating. Maybe you want me to throw it out when it gets flat, but I'm choosing to believe that I can still drink it.
On a scale of one to five, how toasted do you like your toast? Three. Also, what is the best spread in your opinion? I like a variety of different jams, to be honest.
I have some guava jam and some passion fruit jam in my fridge, as well as blackcurrant. And all of those are absolutely delicious. I really like berry mixes and peach jam, marmalade, really, really nice.
And I like apple butter on toast. It's just really good. Which.
.. Oh, I'm sorry, I skipped one. Four.
Is there a snack that you used to love that's now discontinued? If yes, what was it? I'd say it's Doritos and it's not so much that they've been discontinued by the manufacturer.
It's that for purposes of health and staying in shape, I have discontinued Doritos for my life. I mean, I'll occasionally have something like a Fourth of July barbecue, but it's like maybe once a year. I miss them.
I used to eat those little snack packs all the time when I was in high school. And I went through a fair few Doritos in college, too. Now the one that I was almost skipping, too.
Which DC villain do you think you could beat in a fist fight? You may think I'm going for taking the low road here, but I'm going to say Amber Heard. If we're going to go for fictional DC villains, I'm going to have to go with Scarecrow because I don't know.
He just doesn't seem that tough to me. Like I'm going to beat his ass. Joker, on the other hand, scares me a little bit.
So yeah. And I think. ..
I don't know about Lex Luthor. I may be able to do okay with him. But I mean, if Scarecrow hits me with his fear toxin, then I'm done.
But as long as it's just a plain fist fight, I'd beat his scrawny ass. Quick maths. A plus A plus A equals 27.
Well then it's clear that A equals 9. X plus X equals 10. Well then X must be 5.
X squared plus Y equals 11. Well then X squared is going to be 25. So Y must be negative 14.
So A, sorry, X plus A multiplied by the sum of Y squared plus X equals. Let's figure this out. So I'm going to use my tablet again.
We're going to make some notes. A equals 9. X equals 5.
Y equals negative 14. And we're looking for X plus A multiplied by Y squared plus X. First thing we want to do is negative 14 times negative 14.
Well, we can just do 14 times 14 because the negatives cancel. We're going to have 16 carry the 156, 14 there. And that's going to come out to 196.
Plus X equals 201 times 9 is going to be 1809. And then plus A, I'm sorry, plus 5, if I could use my words, is 1814. Sugar, you'll have to go into the comments there to let me know if I'm right, but 1814 is the number that I'm coming up with here.
So if I am off, well, correct me, but I'm going to put my work up in the, as an attachment to this post. So you'll be able to see it. And those actually, sugar, I'm a little bit disappointed because those were the most sane questions you've asked me in a long time.
I'm wondering if you ran out of really truly random stuff to ask me or things that make no sense. So step up your game, girl. You can do better than this.
I believe in you. Amanda says, asks, what is your favorite road trip you've done? Yeah.
So when I was a teenager, when I was 16 or 17, my family went on a road trip. I have an aunt who lives in the Los Angeles area and we went on a road trip to Southern California and visited her, went to San Diego, went to Disney Disneyland, went to Knott's Berry Farm and just had a marvelous week. This was on spring vacation of, I'm pretty sure it was my senior year of high school.
Could have been my junior year. But just a marvelous road trip. Wonderful time.
Part of what made it so wonderful for me is that the week that I was doing that, they had a national high school cheerleaders convention in Los Angeles. And the days that I was at Disneyland, the place was just crawling with these gorgeous young ladies my age. And so, you know, like for a 17 year old, 17 year old guy, this was, this was like, I thought I died and gone to heaven.
Turns out I was just in Tomorrowland. So that was a pretty memorable road trip. Oh, and yeah.
I went with a, we actually went down to Tijuana at one point and, and my parents, they bought all of this, you know, real vanilla extract, not the artificial vanilla. And the kids that were bagging the groceries at the supermarket were talking about, you know, why are these Americans buying all this vanilla? Because they were buying it as gifts for friends and stuff like that.
And what they didn't know is that my dad was fluent in Spanish. And so he responded to them in Spanish and said, in the United States we drink that stuff. And their jaws just about hit the ground when they realized that this gringo had been understanding everything they had said and was able to respond to them.
That was pretty funny. And then we had one of my cousins with us on this trip. And I found this, this stall that, you know, on the street at a market that sold wallets and belts and other, you know, leather clothing, accessories and whatever.
And I found a wallet that I wanted, and I was haggling with the guy. He wanted $20 for it. And I was like, no, five.
And my cousin, and this guy spoke English, and my cousin turns to me, she goes, well, you've got $20. I was like, why you got to be exposing me like that, dude? Like you just ratted me out.
So I ended up paying $20 because I really wanted the wallet. You know, it actually was a reasonable price for it, but I could have gotten it for cheaper. So maybe it wasn't the best road trip ever.
Natasha wants to know what my favorite ride from each Disney World park is. All right, we'll start with the Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom, I absolutely love.
Pirates of the Caribbean, I absolutely love the Haunted Mansion. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I don't know if I can choose just one favorite between those.
But what I really, you know, one of the ones that's my very favorite, it's not a ride, it's more of a show. It's Mickey's PhilharMagic. Just a lot of fun, a lot of fun.
Epcot, oh gosh, probably Soarin'. Although I'm not, I wasn't as impressed. I went to Disney World, last time I went, I want to say it was three years ago.
I wasn't as impressed since they redid it to be Soarin' Around the World. It was more impressive with Soarin' over California. I did not like the CGI effects that they added.
I thought it detracted from it. With Hollywood Studios, honestly, I mean, there's a lot of stuff that's been added there since I was last there. But the Toy Story mania, where you're doing the 3D, you know, shooting stuff, arcade style, gallery style, that is just a hoot.
Love that. I love the Tower of Terror and the Rock and Roller Coaster. And Animal Kingdom, I really, really love Kilimanjaro Safaris.
The new Avatar rides, you know, they got two. They got the Navi River Cruise, and I didn't get a chance to go on that because when I was there, the line was just really, really, really long, and it got shut down for a while in the middle of the day. Getting some notifications, let's put that on Do Not Disturb.
Got shut down for a good portion of the middle of the day, so the line was just terrible. So I didn't get a chance to go on that. But the other one, Flight of the, I don't remember what it's called, but the one, the flying one, it blew my mind.
It's a terrific ride, terrific ride. So you may be able to tell from my answer that I'm a little bit of a nostalgic guy, traditionalist. I really love some of these more classic attractions that have been there forever.
Ones that came over from Disneyland back in the 50s, you know, that opened in the mid-50s. And then, of course, Magic Kingdom opened in, I believe, 71 or 72. And yeah, I really go for some of those classic ones.
Where I lost my place, lost my place, lost my place. Okay, in your opinion, which Disney film has the best soundtrack? The Disney Renaissance of the 90s is pretty incredible.
I, you know, you really can't argue with the soundtracks of Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, The Lion King. But, you know, I think that they've really had another renaissance here, like Frozen, Moana, Encanto. For those of you on the server, Kat did not like Encanto.
I'm not going to make fun of her here, but I think she's wrong. I think she, I think that she woke up with her neck stiff the day that she watched that, it put a bad taste in her mouth, and I think she needs to watch it again. So maybe I'll try to convince her to do that.
So if I had to say which one has the best soundtrack, I don't know. Again, I'm going to take the easy way out and say I don't know if I can pick one. But I really, really, really do like the Moana one.
If I had to pick one, it's really, really pretty spectacular. And finally, what is your favorite book from your childhood? I'm also going to take a cop out here and say, not my favorite book, I'll just say favorite series.
You know, when I was, when I was in my teens, I read a lot of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and then finished by Brandon Sanderson. And I read a lot of the Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonlance fantasy books. I've always had a thing for fantasy novels and mystery novels.
So those are kind of the two genres I gravitate towards the most when I'm doing my own reading. And of course, I've read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings multiple times, and it never gets old. It's still a masterpiece.
Both of those works are masterpieces. So yeah, my favorite genre from childhood, I would have to say is fantasy. And my favorite series from childhood would be The Lord of the Rings.
Tia asks what my signature dance move is. Pretty much standard white guy who can't dance dancing. That's what I do.
Jen asks what my go-to food is when it's hot. Um, burgers. Because like, when else are you going to grill burgers? You know, you grill burgers when it's hot.
So burgers, obviously, and hot dogs and chips and all the other things that'll make me die young. So maybe I should move somewhere that's really, really, really cold. Like Canada.
Caroline wants to know if you could do something dangerous with no risk, what would you do? I would ski all the double black diamond ski runs I could. I'm a fair skier.
I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm a fair skier. I do pretty well. But I am not a double black diamond guy.
And I would, if I could do it risk-free, that's what I would do. On to Luna Castro's questions, do you like to watch making of or behind the scenes of movies or you think it ruins the movie? I really like to watch them.
It doesn't ruin the movie for me. I'm able to suspend my disbelief well enough in movies that it really, like, even if I know that it's, you know, actors and makeup and a set, the scary stuff still scares me. And so, yeah, it doesn't ruin it for me.
I really like watching that stuff. What's the worst physical pain you've ever experienced? This is going back a couple years, a few years to when I was in college.
I was in a bike accident where a car was not paying attention. I was riding my bike, car was not paying attention, drifted over. And in order to avoid him, I kept getting, you know, further and further over off the side of the road and eventually hit the curb and flew over my bike.
It bent both rims on my bike, just totally tore it apart. And I walked my bike home and I took it to the bike shop and I got it repaired. But about a week later, I was sitting in my apartment, in my bedroom studying and my roommate was there with me.
And I just started to feel like I'd been kicked in the balls, you know, just kind of gradually at first. But it got to be the most excruciating pain that I've felt in my entire life. And within about half an hour, I was just writhing on the couch in absolute agony.
And my roommate, I lived on the third floor of an apartment complex. My roommate had to carry me down the stairs to put me in the car to take me to the hospital. And they diagnosed me with traumatic epididymitis.
And it was, I am sure that there are people who have experienced worse pain than that. But I can't fathom what that would be. I literally cannot imagine what could hurt worse than that.
Now, before you go saying, Oh, he's just a wimp. Know this, a few years ago, I stress fractured my, my knee, like the orthopedist said it was grade four, which is apparently the worst kind, really, really severe. And I was still running two miles a day on a broken leg.
And it was and I went to the orthopedist to be like, why does my leg hurt so bad? And he, he thought it was a tendon problem or a ligament problem. So he sent me to get an MRI.
And before I even left the MRI building, I got called on my.
