I Take You To A Cabin For Your Birthday (Episode 4, Friends-with-benefits series - Lonely Leader)

Cool. Well, I know your birthday is coming up in September. Do you have plans? Right, you'll be away on a work trip? Well, any chance you can take a weekend off when you get back? Or even before? Yeah? Okay, well, I have a few options to propose.

If you might like to celebrate your birthday together? Yeah? Okay.

Well, you mentioned wanting to do some camping? Or go to a cabin or something like that? Cool.

Alright, I came up with a few possibilities. Okay. The first option is that we could go camping somewhere in my van.

If that's something your security team would approve of? Yeah, it could be someplace private and off the grid. I know tons of fabulous secret spots within a three hour drive from your place in Ottawa.

And I guarantee we will have those places to ourselves this time of year. Or, if your security team prefers to book out a campground or something like that? That works too.

Whatever's best, yeah. And if we go in my van, it's really well set up. I've got solar power, water tanks, heating, a toilet.

And I even have a solar powered shower. Okay. The second option is we could go to my bestie's cabin in the valley.

About two hours drive from your house? But it's very rustic. Yeah, it doesn't have electricity, plumbing or internet.

There is cell phone reception and there's a small solar panel for charging your phone if needed. But otherwise, it's an old school cabin. With an outhouse, wood stove, paraffin lanterns, water pump.

But it's actually really cozy and comfortable. With a fireplace, an old fashioned claw tub and a loft bedroom. And there's windows everywhere with breathtaking views of the lake and forest all around.

Again, I'm not sure if that works for security and stuff for you. Okay. Alright.

Our last option is just to pick a spot that feels safe for you. And that you would like to go to. And that's approved by your security team.

If you don't like either of the first two options. Would any of those interest you for a little birthday getaway? Really? A remote, rustic cabin? Seriously? You know I said outhouse, right? No, no, that's great.

That would be my first choice too. Yeah, I love it there. And I hope you will too.

Okay then, just send me the weekend dates in September that work for you. And I will make the arrangements with my friend. And I'll get back to you with details.

Would it work for like Friday evening to Sunday evening? Sure, sure, I can drive us. Will your security team approve you escaping the palace on your own like that? Okay, okay, cool.

Oh man, this is going to be wonderful, mi amor. I can't wait to celebrate your birthday with you. Okay, talk soon.

So here we are. Let me just quickly light some of these candles and lanterns so we can turn our flashlights off. Alright, we have light.

So let me give you the quick and easy tour. Well, it doesn't look like much on the outside, but it's cozy and surprisingly spacious on the inside. The whole back wall there is actually floor-to-ceiling windows that are currently covered by those blinds.

It's like being directly in the forest when we open the blinds. I can't wait to show you tomorrow. The views are breathtaking.

Yeah, Bestie built it themselves over several summers. And even lived here a few years with their partner and first child. But as their family grew, they moved into a bigger place in this same community.

So now it's just a recreational cabin that they rent out and share very generously with friends and family. Alright, so basically on this side of the cabin is the living area with the fireplace. And on this side of the cabin is the kitchen area with propane stove and fridge and a wood stove.

And up there is the loft and the bedroom, which actually has room to sleep four people. A larger queen bed and a twin bunk bed off to the side. And then, let's just go outside the back door here onto the porch.

Yeah, yeah, it's covered. We should be out of the rain. So the outhouse is just down that path a little.

Yeah, you see it? Yeah, it actually has a toilet you can sit on. But just, you know, it's a big hole underneath.

So yeah, no flushing required. But there's also an RV toilet tucked under the bunk bed upstairs too, if you prefer. I know I find it much more convenient for those middle of the night needs.

Yeah, yeah, especially in winter. Oh, and speaking of upstairs, there's also a solar panel charger by the window in the loft if you need to charge your phone. And then here, off the side of the porch, is the best room of this cabin, in my opinion.

This is the literal bathroom, which you can enter from the porch here. Or there's another door there that connects back to the living room inside. The pièce de résistance, of course, in this room, is the big old-fashioned claw tub.

There's a little wood stove in here too, which really warms the room up and can even turn it into a kind of sauna with a little water. The wood stove also heats up the water in this tank in here, which collects from the rain on the roof. So that way, you can have a hot bath even without heating or running water.

I know, clever, right? And in the summer, these windows can actually unlatch and open all the way out. And with the bug screens on, it creates a lovely protected porch space, especially when the insects get really bad here in early summer.

Same with the big floor-to-ceiling windows at the back of the cabin. It all opens up to let the fresh air in, but keeps the bugs out. Yeah, yeah, Bestie built all of it.

They're such a gifted carpenter and builder. They actually helped me design and build my van too. Well, listen, what do you say I start a little fire in this wood stove to get the water starting to heat up while you bring in the food and the bags?

Yeah, that way you can have a hot bath after that long drive, and I can prepare dinner for us. Perfect! Yeah, you can put stuff in the fridge.

The fridge should be on and cold already. Yeah, Bestie said they turned it on yesterday when they came in to check on everything for us. Cool.

Okay. Yeah, I'll see you in a few minutes. Ah, here you are on the couch.

Oh, and you started a fire in the fireplace too. Great! All right, fires are lit, food is put away, and the fun has begun.

Ah, let me sit here on the couch with you and say, Happy Birthday, mi amor. Can I give you a birthday kiss? Yeah? So, yeah, here we are.

How are you feeling about this? Any reservations or worries or anything like that? All right, just excited, nervous? Yeah? All right.

Or homemade birthday brownies, actually. And I added sprinkles on top and everything. Yeah, yeah.

I even brought a birthday candle. So you can blow it out and make a wish. You already got your wish.

Mmm. Well, all that to say, we can take this at whatever pace works for you. And we can enjoy your birthday however you'd like.

Okay, well, uh, what do you say to you starting your spa weekend with a nice soak in the tub, while I prepare something for dinner for us? Yeah, that sounds perfect. Awesome, yeah.

Yeah, the water should be hot now. And there's all kinds of bath stuff in the basket by the tub. There's soaps, shampoo, bubble bath, bath salts.

Yeah, take whatever you like. And for lighting, you can light the lanterns along the edge of the windows. There should be matches or a lighter there, too.

And there's fresh towels and bathrobes in the basket by the door. Help yourself. And, uh, take your time.

There's no rush, okay? Yeah, yeah, dinner will be ready for you when you get out. Awesome, well, I will see you at dinner.

Alright, go relax, mi amor. What was that? Hey, mi amor, did you say something to me? Do you need something? Really? You need me to come in? Are you sure? Okay.

Hey, uh, everything okay in here? Oh, my God, you are drowning in bubbles. You're just a face floating on top of a mountain of foam.

Wow. Yeah, you have gorgeous skin, you know that? Yeah, that rich coffee color.

That glow. And mi amor, you have some serious back muscle. Wow, you are beautiful.

But I can tell you've been carrying the weight of the world on that back. Do you mind if I give you a little neck and back rub to loosen up the tightness a bit? Yeah, there you go.

And we can roast hot dogs on the fire. I also brought your favourite Canadian treat. Ketchup chips.

Yeah, yeah, that would hit the spot. Excellent. And what would you like to drink? Okay, perfect.

Well, I'll go get all that ready. And you can just come join me by the fireplace when you're done, okay? Alright, see you then, mi amor.

Wait till I see you in your birthday suit. Well, uh, from what I got a peek at through the bubbles, uh, I think you're right. Your birthday suit is definitely gonna be my favorite outfit on you.

Oh, oh, thanks. Uh, yeah, yeah, these are my favorite PJs, actually. And, yeah, they do double duty.

They're cozy and cute. Just like me, hey? You're sweet.

Well, um, you wanna take a seat on the cushions and rug there in front of the fire for our very epicurean supper? Yeah, it gives new meaning to the phrase sit down dinner, doesn't it? Alright, uh, there you go.

And here's your drink. And on the table here is some salad and hot dog fixings and, of course, the ketchup chips. And the hot dogs and roasting sticks are by the fireplace there.

Yeah, if you want, you can just go ahead and start, uh, roasting them and I can prepare a plate for you. Okay, cool. Uh, do you want salad? Yeah? Uh, do you want any dressing on the salad? There's a few choices here.

Okay. And what condiments or extras would you like, uh, in your hot dog? Perfect.

And, uh, I'm ready for dinner.
