By complete mistake, mind you. In those timelines, people definitely didn't have the technology to travel through time. Though, because we do, we accidentally, well, some of our scientists, accidentally created a few stints for the timelines and created certain wormholes connecting other timelines to our own.

And people just so happen to have traveled through these portals, wormholes, by complete accident as if they were mere doors. Ending up in our timeline. Now, you should definitely read up about those types of scenarios.

Those people in particular, some of them are driven so mad that they're led to suicide. Others, well, those are different situations and different stories. I'm not gonna blabber on too much about all of that.

Oh really now? So you're a scientist yourself, are you? And you and your colleagues of that time were one of the first to come up with time travel technology of that magnitude?

Interesting. Interesting. Though, you guys were far from the first to come up with the concept of time travel and actually pull it off to some extent.

The very first instances of time travel, at least according to our records, happened approximately 500 years ago, during the time of World War II. German scientists under the Hitler regime came up with a groundbreaking discovery, though it was not actually mass-produced nor followed through, completely to much of an extent. Basically doing everything by its own will, its own mind, and its own intelligence.

Though, under careful consideration and, of course, a revolution by the people, that happened actually not too long after your particular set time. Um, I could tell you how that ends out for you and your particular, like, colleague, since they're part of that timeline too. Well, you're not part of it anymore, so technically you wouldn't be going through what they're about to go through.

But it was a complete mess worldwide. But once everything settled down, they made the decision to have automated technology not too self-sufficient and independent. Since that raised not only the worry that robots would completely replace humans in every field completely, but also become way too intelligent and powerful for humans to control, eventually leading to a complete rebellion, which nobody wanted.

While you can consider automated technology to still be sort of self-sufficient, but it's still completely dependent on humans to even activate them and give them certain commands, like you would a computer of your time. It's just a way, way, way more advanced version of a computer, but still need humans to give it the proper props and commands. Mm-hmm.
