Take a moment to transport yourself to the fresh ocean air of the California coast. Relax with this mindfulness journey through a calm, warm beach, where you are in the comfort of one another with your toes in the sand.
Hello, my sweet friend. It's so nice to see you again. I have been feeling so proud of you lately.
Everything that has been going on is no match for your strength and drive. You know what every hardworking person needs? A little of what I like to call R&R and R&R.
Rest, relaxation, rejuvenation, and renewal. Wouldn't it be nice to get away from here? Go somewhere beautiful and serene? What's your favorite place to go? How about the beach? I can't think of somewhere I'd rather be.
Your hair blowing softly in the wind. The sounds of birds and the waves crashing. Would you like to join me? First, let's get comfortable.
Stretch out and begin to relax your body by releasing any areas that may be holding tension. Neck, jaw, shoulders. Your body deserves this break.
You work so hard and do so much for those around you. Let your body sink in. Allow your arms to feel heavy.
Then your legs. Loose and relaxed. Let's move to your back and spine.
Feel your body sinking into the bed. Release any hold of your muscles all the way from the top of your head, down your neck, along each vertebrae, slowly, deeply. Take a deep breath into your diaphragm.
Notice how your chest and belly move, drawing air into your lungs, then releasing the air. Breathe in slowly. Pause for a moment and breathe out.
Breathe in. Pause for a moment and breathe out. Draw one more deep breath in, together, and let it out.
It is a quiet and beautiful sound, isn't it? Become more and more relaxed with each breath. Feel a wave of relaxation coming up around your feet, rolling over your ankles, legs, stomach, chest, and up over your head, down your back, arms, backs of your legs.
Allow your body to relax, deeply and heavily. Let's begin to immerse ourselves. We are driving on Highway 1, heading up the California coast.
Each time you look over at the ocean, it's more beautiful. Sparkling blue, birds dipping in and out, the jagged coastline stunning. Piers jut into the water every few miles, families take pictures, and kids play on the sand and in the water, so happy, so peaceful.
We round the coast, up around Santa Barbara, heading north, and I ask if you want to pull off and walk along the coast for a bit. It is much less populated here, just a few fishermen along the water. We do, and the moment we open our car doors, the smell of the ocean hits us.
The unmistakable sea salt spray. The wind rustling through the trees. The sun shines brightly on us, gently warming our skin.
It's as if the sun is pouring over us, showering us in light, and love, and warmth. Salt spray travels in the wind, lightly misting our faces. I come around to your side of the car and take your hand as we walk toward the beach.
The air is moist and warm, and there is a cool, pleasant breeze blowing through the palm trees along the pathway. We wind our way to the beach. Small flowers that have pushed their way up in the early spring dance in the wind, guiding our path to the water.
As we come to the edge of the trees on the pathway, the brilliant, sparkling aqua ocean comes into full view. The beach is wide and long, the stretch of white sand glowing bright. I carry our shoes so you can walk freely.
With our shoes off, the heat of the sand courses up through our feet, warming us to the core. The heat from the sun meets the heat from the sand, and the water is looking ever more inviting. As we approach the water, you can feel the mist from the ocean on your skin.
We walk closer, the sand becoming wet and firm underneath our bare feet. I smile at you as we dig our toes into the wet sand, drawing shapes. A small wave washes over the sand, inching closer, lapping over our toes.
Notice how your breathing remains ever so calm, and even inhaling and exhaling purposefully, and slowly. Paying close attention now, you slow down your breathing even further, and allow your muscles to relax. The blue waves run up to the shore, dipping our toes in further.
The water is a welcome, cool blast from the heat of the sand, and so soothing, a relief from the heat. We walk deeper in, immersing our shins in the water, up to our knees, our thighs, feeling it splash up our legs, gazing out over the calm water that sparkles a bright blue-green. Small schools of fish dance in the shallow water.
The small waves move purposefully up onto the sand, then receding back toward the ocean. The ever-repeating pattern and rhythm of the sea. Feeling calm and refreshed, we walk back onto the beach.
I take your hand as we stroll along the edge of the water, enjoying these blissful moments together. The beautiful, golden, warm sun waking up each and every cell and muscle in your body, making you feel warm and alive. Can you feel the peace that surrounds you? Up ahead, we see a lounge chair and a towel underneath an umbrella facing toward the ocean.
We walk toward it and sit on the chair together. I sit behind you, massaging your shoulders and neck. Your skin is warm from the sun, and your hair smells of sea spray, salty and damp.
I wrap my arms around you, our warm bodies pushing against each other in a comfortable embrace. Our hearts beating in sync as we watch sea birds dive into the ocean. You lie down on the chair, and I move to the towel.
As you lie on the chair, the shade of the umbrella keeps you cool under the warm springtime sun. You feel so peaceful and relaxed, your body releasing all remaining stress, all tension evaporating into the warm air as you breathe into your core, the warmth settling throughout your entire body. Do you love it here? I thought you would, and I love seeing you happy and relaxed.
We should come here more often. When you are ready to return from this beautiful place, do so slowly, gently, and remember, it is never far away. Become aware of your hands and your feet, still warm from the glow of the beach in our little world, and move your fingers and toes around.
Keep with you the feeling of calm, of serenity, move your arms and your legs, bringing back your alertness and awareness of your surroundings. Refreshed and renewed, we open our eyes to the world around us. Thank you.
