This story is a mindfulness journey to a Japanese hot spring, nestled in the western outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. It will warm your body. We soak in the hot springs together as snow falls around us. It can end in sleep or in waking up.
Hello beautiful, it's so lovely to see you again. I enjoy our time together so much, and I'm always eagerly awaiting our adventures together. You are a blessing to everyone in your life, and you are never taken for granted.
It would be nice to take a break, wouldn't it? If it was somewhere beautiful and peaceful, well, I know just the place. Just close your eyes and let me take you there.
First, let your body relax, deeply. Stretch out and begin to calm your body by releasing any areas that may be holding tension. Neck, jaw, your shoulders.
Your body deserves this break. It deserves to feel good, and your body will thank you for taking care of each part. You work so hard and do so much for those around you.
Let your body sink in. Allow your arms to feel heavy, then your legs, loose and relaxed. Let's move to your back and spine.
Feel your body sinking into the bed. Release any hold of your muscles, all the way from the top of your head, down your neck, along each vertebrae, slowly, surely, deeply. Take a deep breath into your diaphragm.
Notice how your chest and belly move, drawing air into your lungs, then releasing the air. Breathe in again, slowly. Pause for a moment, and breathe out, in, out.
Draw one more deep breath in, and let it out. It is a quiet and beautiful sound, isn't it? Feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed with each breath.
Feel a wave of relaxation coming up around your feet, rolling over your ankles, up your legs, stomach, chest, and up over your head, down your back, arms, backs of your legs. Allow your body to relax deeply and heavily on the bed. Let's begin to immerse ourselves.
We have snuck away somewhere together, somewhere warm and cozy, a cabin in the woods, in Lake Tahoe. The drive there is so gorgeous, mountains layered over each other, covered in snow, peppered with dark, green trees. Stunning but stunning nature for miles and miles, as far as we can see.
It feels so far away from the stresses of home, bringing comfort and serenity. After following a few winding roads off the highway, we find the place that we're staying at. Our usual place was booked, so we stayed here, a rustic log A-frame nestled between snow-covered trees.
It's perfect. I love how we can make any situation comfortable and fun, even when things don't go as we planned. We unload our car, unpacking all the ingredients we brought to cook amazing meals together, and all of our cozy clothes.
Our big fluffy blankets and pillows too, so we're comfortable. As we unload the car, snowflakes land on your eyelashes. You look so beautiful like that.
The fireplace crackles as we lounge on the couch. My arms around you as we drift in and out of sleep, watching the snow fall, hearts beating in time with each other's, the fireplace crackling. I love how you look here, so comfortable, away from work, away from the stress.
Your best self coming through, radiating, relaxing into the vacation and into me. We fall asleep together like this, dreaming of all the fun we will have tomorrow. We will walk in the snow, bundled up and warm against the falling snowflakes and the wind.
We will look at the gorgeous views and cook delicious food together. We can watch movies and just enjoy each other's company. We can watch the snow fall, relaxing on the couch, or explore new places together.
No matter what, it will be so much fun. We can take pictures together, laughing and smiling, so happy to be here. And someday, we'll look at these pictures and feel the warmth emanating from them, remembering how sweet these days feel.
I massage your neck and shoulders, rubbing, kneading, feeling, finding any knots of tension that arise. Applying gentle pressure from my fingertips to your neck, shoulders, and down your arms, easing any pain or tension. My fingers move down your arms and up around your shoulder blades, smoothing and calming.
We lean against the couch together, holding hands, watching the snow fall as the sky darkens. The large windows show us how close we are to the snow and make us feel even cozier. Stars light up the distant sky between the trees, and we feel so content and grounded in this heavenly escape.
You close your eyes, tilting your head towards me. Kiss your forehead, and we relax deeply into each other like this. Through the falling snow, standing upright and shining down upon Earth on these midwinter nights is the brightest and grandest of all the constellations, Orion, the mighty hunter.
Do you know the story of this constellation? Orion is beautiful and mighty. In legend, he was the tallest and most handsome of men.
His right shoulder and left foot are marked by Betelgeuse and Rigel, with three distinctive stars marking his belt. Menelius called it Golden Orion and the mightiest of constellations, and exaggerated its brilliance by saying that, when Orion rises, night feigns the brightness of day and folds its dusky wings. Menelius described Orion as stretching his arms over a vast expanse of sky and rising to the stars with no less huge a stride.
In fact, Orion is not an exceptionally large constellation, but the brilliance of its stars gives it the illusion of being much larger. Orion is also one of the most ancient constellations, being among the few star groups known to the earliest Greek writers. Even in the space age, Orion remains one of the few star patterns that non-astronomers can recognize, like us.
In the sky, Orion is depicted facing the charge of neighboring Taurus the bull, yet the myth of Orion makes no reference to combat. According to myth, Orion was the son of Poseidon, the sea god, and Euryale, daughter of King Minos of Crete. Poseidon gave Orion the power to walk on water.
Homer in the Odyssey describes Orion as a giant hunter, armed with an unbreakable club of solid bronze. In the sky, the hunter's dogs, the constellations Canis Major and Canis Minor, follow at his heels in pursuit of the hare, the constellation Lepus. Orion lost his sight as punishment in legend, so he headed east toward the sunrise, which an oracle had told him would restore his sight.
As the sun's healing rays fell on his sightless eyes at dawn, Orion's vision was miraculously restored. What is there to learn from Orion? That you don't need to be the brightest star in the sky to mean so much to the world.
As we leave this place, there are some things I want to remind you of. You are one of a kind. I love you unconditionally.
You were created for a purpose. I love to hold you and support you. You are beautiful on the inside and the outside.
You add value to everyone's life of which you are a part. You are able to give and receive love freely. You are not defined by your mistakes.
You are growing and evolving. You are strong and you are beautiful. Until I see you again, remember that all of these things are true.
No one can take away any of these true statements. You are in charge of your own destiny. You and only you can decide what happens next.
Those around you are fortunate to see you grow and make everyone proud. You are going to be great tomorrow and every day. Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
Become aware of your hands and feet, still warm from the glow of the fire in our little cabin, and move your fingers and toes around. Keep with you and hold with you a feeling of calm, of serenity. Move your arms and your legs, bringing back your alertness and awareness of your surroundings.
Refreshed and renewed, we open our eyes to the world around us. www.mooji.org.
