Spend a few minutes with me, laying in my arms on the deck while the sun and breeze tickle your skin. Close your eyes and breathe while I describe a perfect afternoon.
Over the next several minutes, I am going to describe one of my favorite places to you. And all I ask is that you close your eyes and breathe while I do so. Take the next few minutes to spend some time with me where I am.
Let all the sensations and feelings flow over your body and allow yourself to relax. Unclench your jaw and take deep, soothing breaths like this. In and out.
Very good. Now eyes closed. You are going to spend some time with me on my back deck.
I could enjoy the gentle, warm rays of sun that come through the little gaps in the egg chair with you laying here on my chest, both of us curled up into the corner, the pillows making a little bit of a wall, a place for me to lay and a place for you to join. And there is nowhere I would rather be. Feeling your warmth in the sun coming down on us.
Seeing how it plays and dances in your hair while I run my fingers through it. Seeing how it lights up your eyes when you look at me. Oh, they are beautiful, by the way.
Your skin gets goosebumps as I run my hand down your arm. It is warm. I am not sure why those are there, but it must be something unrelated to the sun.
Could it be the gentle breeze that comes through? The one that pushes your hair around? The one that rings? The wind chimes just a little bit? Just enough for a little bit of melodic ambience as we lay there and breathe together.
And I whisper things into your ear, telling you that everything is going to be okay. That some days are tough, but days like this make it worth it when I get to be with you and we both get to relax and just breathe for a little bit. The rustling in the trees ahead, probably squirrels, or is it a bird you hear chirping? Maybe several.
They get a little bit noisy, but I never mind. You and I are safe and comfy, wrapped up right here in this chair, and the rest of the world just seems to be going about its business. An animal or two comes wandering through, birds chirping, singing in the trees.
Just for you, I think. And far off in the distance, you can hear a car, maybe a train pass. I pull you a little bit closer and run my hand up and down your arm.
How does that feel? To feel all of my fingers curling up to wrap around your arm, sliding up and down. An activity that takes almost no thought at all.
Just a bit of a reflex of mine to hold you close and make sure you know that everything's going to be okay. Whether that's the way it feels when I rub your arm or your back or pull you into a hug, this time is about you and me and being together. In and out.
The breeze brings in the smell of somebody cooking from a little ways off. Although the natural smell of all the trees around is certainly one to take in. You're wrapped up in my vanilla and spice.
Sink a little bit deeper in. Come a little bit closer. Wriggle up against me.
Get comfortable. There you go. We're not done yet.
Eyes closed and breathing. I'm not sure there's much in the way of taste out here, but pressing my lips against yours every once in a while seems to hold us both over. A gentle peck when I pull you in closer by the shoulder.
Giving you a good strong squeeze to let you know I'm glad you're here with me and I'm very glad to be here with you. We could spend all day here just watching the clouds roll by. Seeing what birds and animal friends come through.
Who's causing trouble and who's just adding some sweet music to the surroundings. Sometimes one squirrel will chase another squirrel through the trees and we'll hear and probably see the rustling of branches, the moving, the skittering, the sound of little feet and little claws against the bark of the tree as they run up and down. A bit of a larger breeze picks up and we can hear all of the leaves stirring in the trees above us.
The wind chimes sounding again a little bit louder. Your hair blowing and me pulling you closer. We're mostly blocked from the wind but I like to be able to feel it a little bit.
Just enough as it passes over my skin that it almost feels like you blowing very softly on the back of my hand to get my attention and it works. I look right down at you don't I? I love the way that feels.
The little things that you do while we lay together to get me to look over or the things you know that I very much enjoy like catching you, looking at me, looking at you, looking back at me. That one's my favorite. So take a couple more deep breaths for me.
Sink a little bit further into my arms and into the chair. Your legs are curled up just a little bit but it's not uncomfortable. This is a place you could get cozy enough and fall asleep although I'm not sure I recommend it.
The mosquito net will keep you safe from bugs but you may wake up with messy hair if I'm running my hands through it to get you to fall asleep. Oh, because I don't think I would stop. I would just keep running my fingers through your hair gently grazing your scalp as your breathing slows and steadies and you fall asleep in my arms.
I'll shield you from the sun and let you take a little warm nap. I won't make any noise. I'm just going to let you sleep a little while.
Enjoy your presence and know that really this is the ultimate sign that you're enjoying mine and I wouldn't have it any other way. So close your eyes. Let yourself relax.
The rest of the world is moving around. It's swirling but you and I are just here stationary together enjoying the moment in and out. In and out.
In and out. In and out.
